Pittsburgh Exterior Painters Who Protect Your Investment
Exterior painting in Pittsburgh means dealing with weather that challenges every surface – rain, snow, humidity, temperature swings, and intense summer sun. Your home’s exterior isn’t just about appearance. It’s your first line of defense against the elements, and the quality of exterior house painting directly affects how long that protection lasts.
House Hues has been delivering durable, beautiful exterior painting throughout Pittsburgh since 2019. We work in Sewickley, Fox Chapel, Mt. Lebanon, Wexford, and across the metro area with homeowners who understand that exterior paint is an investment in their property’s longevity and value.

EXCELLENT Based on 12 reviews Posted on Becca FichtlTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I’m not sure where to start…. 5 stars for quality of work… 5 stars for quality of workers… 5 stars for responsiveness, accuracy of timing, reliability. House Hues is the only company I will ever call for our painting needs. We had the whole interior of our home prepped (including a smoothing out of some very ‘90s textured walls) and painted. The walls look brand new, the lines are perfect, the cabinets are smooth and brand new looking. I can’t say enough good things about David, his crew, their work and work ethic. Thank you for a great experience, House Hues.Posted on David LittmanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. David and his team exceeded our expectations! They are very professional and take great pride in their work. The job was finished to complete satisfaction. They communicated with us each day, let themselves in and out. Always cleaned up after themselves. We will definitely use them for our next project. We recommend them without hesitation. Can’t wait to work with them again!Posted on Gary SchurmanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. These guys were great to work with…very professional, prompt and neat and clean workers. Came when they said they would and did an excellent job! We were very satisfied and would recommend them. They painted our kitchen cabinets and walls.Posted on Tom DefazioTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. This was absolute best experience ever in getting some work done at my house. Not only was the job fantastic, they are some of the nicest people you would ever want to meet. Total respect for my house, my time and even my dog! Highly recommend them,Posted on Ron DeemsTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We have used David and his team for two projects. The first project was to paint the exterior of our home about two years later we loved David so much that we used him to paint the interior of a new home that we purchased. I truly can’t say enough good things about David And his whole operation. David is respectful, timely, thoughtful in his approach and very trustworthy. I would highly recommend David and his services to anyone looking to have a beautiful job and a wonderful experience. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!Posted on Alicia CahallTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My experience with David and the House Hues crew has been nothing short of amazing. After 2 years of searching for a new home, we finally and somewhat unexpectedly went under contract on a house with a 45 day window for closing. Having casually seen advertisements for House Hues on Facebook and Instagram, I reached out to David to inquire about their services for my relatively short timeline (We needed to start the day after closing and be done within a month). We painted EVERYTHING. Windows, Walls, Ceilings, Beams, Trim, Doors, Kitchen Cabinetry and Built-ins. There was much work to be done...30 years of repeat amateur/DIY paint jobs, trim that was overpainted with incorrect materials, gapped and warped molding, dingy and damaged factory finished cabinetry. We elected to go with David and House Hues because of his experience with finishing cabinetry. I must admit, after negative experiences with other contractors painting cabinetry in the past, I was leery. In retrospect my apprehension was unfounded. Here is why: 1.) THE CREW: The crew is simply delightful. The House Hues website did not lie.... they are actual artisans... potters, crafters, painters. They are friendly and easygoing. You would never feel uncomfortable with having this crew working in your occupied home...around your children. They are respectful of your property and family. 2.) THE MATERIALS: David KNOWS his materials. He knows how colors will develop on a wall, he knows how finishes will flatten or shine, he knows what is the best and necessary product for your desired result. I had some preconceived notions about what I wanted for glosses and finishes and products. I am an amateur. I was wrong. David made the right choices for our project. Let him take the wheel. When you meet him you will see he has a certain nerdy neuroticism about painting materials, and that trait translates to a beautiful finished product. (Do yourself a favor and take his recommendation to venture down to Ace Fine Paints and Unfinished Furniture for help with colors!). 3.) THE COMPLETION: While I can't make promises for your project, I feel as if my project was rather intrepid. 2700 sq feet of absolute everything house painting done in 3.5 weeks. Bare wood trim, wood paned windows, cabinetry.... all completed in a brutally short timeline. While other housepainters will leave you with splatter, drips and overspray, House Hues will exit your home and leave little evidence they were ever there (other than a fab fresh paint job). The attached photos speak for themselves. The cabinetry work is probably better than factory quality in my opinion. 4.) THE BUSINESS ETHIC: I am an utterly annoying client. I ask too many questions, change my mind too many times, add and subtract projects with the turn of the wind. David and Crew were always patient and kind about my indecisiveness and incessant nonsensical text messages. House Hues was responsive to all of my inquiries, including providing a timely quote, and worked well with the other contractors / installers on site during the time of my project. I can't say enough about how excited I am about my new home, and the work House Hues did here is a major part of that excitement. They've only left here a month ago and I'm already scheming up more projects to invite them back to (exterior, painting furniture, lol). If you are on the fence, take the leap, reach out to David, you will NOT be disappointed.Posted on Joe MartiniTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. House Hues did refinish painting on our Kitchen Cabinets (Jan 2022). Cabinets we’re finished with chalk paint and wax finish that was turning yellow. Dave and Ben completed refinish and the cabinets are now White and kitchen is nice and bright. House Hues completed all work that we agreed to and went above and beyond with finish work. Highly recommend if you are looking for kitchen redo or any painting projects. Will definitely be using again for future projects.Posted on Jennifer EnglerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. David was recommended by a neighbor of ours and we were thrilled with his work on our kitchen cabinets. He was incredibly friendly and professional, walked us through the entire process, helped us pick the right color and completed everything quickly and efficiently. I would recommend his business to anyone. We are thrilled with our kitchen cabinets!Posted on Jeff StackhouseTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We recently had our entire first and second floors painted by David and his crew. This included all our doors, ceilings, trim, baseboards, window sills and moldings. The work completed was excellent. They protected all our flooring, carpeting, stairs and furniture while they completed their work. We were communicated with several times before and during the job, and kept fully aware of what was going to be done. Members of the painting team, were very cordial, polite, and accommodating during the job. Giving us plenty of time to stay out of their way while they worked. Highly recommended.Posted on Brittani NameyTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. David was awesome to work with and very meticulous with his work. He is professional and completed our job, working above and beyond because we had a deadline. He painted our kitchen cabinets and they are beautiful! We would definitely recommend using him for any project.

Behind House HUES
I started House Hues in 2019 because I wanted to do something different in the painting world. Too many contractors rush through jobs, cut corners, or treat homes like just another project. That’s never been my approach.
My background is in restoration work, where you learn pretty quickly that details matter. You can’t fake quality when you’re working with old homes or trying to match finishes that have been there for decades. That experience taught me to match the right products to the right applications, and to never settle for “good enough.”
Today, I bring that same mindset to every project we take on. Whether it’s a high gloss finish, VeroMetal application, or a simple interior repaint, I treat your home the way I’d treat my own. I’ve built this business on word of mouth and repeat clients because when you do right by people, they remember it. I want every client to feel proud of their home – and confident they chose a painter who genuinely cares about the result.
I’m not interested in being the biggest painting company in Pittsburgh. I’m interested in being the best at what we do – Creating spaces you’ll love to live in, not just live with.
[Why Us]
Why is House HUES the best Exterior House Painting Company in Pittsburgh, Pa?

We Stand Behind Our Work

Investment in Excellence
We’re not the cheapest – we’re the most deliberate. Every dollar you invest goes toward craftsmanship, materials, and a process that ensures your home looks exceptional today, tomorrow, and ten years from now. Quality costs more upfront, but it pays for itself in longevity and peace of mind.
Why Pittsburgh Homes Need Expert Exterior Painters
Weather Takes a Toll: Pittsburgh’s freeze-thaw cycles, humidity, UV exposure, and rain punish exterior paint. Your home needs protection engineered for these conditions, not just coverage.
Surface Preparation Determines Longevity: Paint only bonds to what’s underneath. Most exterior paint failures trace back to inadequate prep, not bad paint. Power washing, scraping, sanding, wood repair, and priming take time but ensure your paint actually lasts.
Product Selection Matters: We select products based on your home’s specific conditions – surface type, sun exposure, and moisture challenges. A south-facing wall needs different paint than a shaded north side.
Application Timing: We don’t paint in rain, extreme heat, high humidity, or outside temperature specifications. Rushing work in bad conditions causes adhesion failures and blistering. We’d rather delay your project than compromise results.
Exterior Painting Services We Provide
Wood Siding: Cedar, pine, and hardwood siding each require specific prep and priming approaches. We repair or replace damaged boards, address rot issues, and ensure proper sealing before applying finish coats.
Fiber Cement Siding: HardiePlank and similar products need proper priming and paint formulated for cement-based surfaces. We follow manufacturer guidelines to maintain warranty coverage.
Aluminum and Vinyl Siding: Yes, these can be painted when done correctly. Surface cleaning, proper primers, and paint formulated for non-porous surfaces deliver lasting results.
Trim, Fascia, and Soffit: Exterior trim takes more abuse than siding and often needs additional prep. We ensure all edges are sealed properly to prevent moisture intrusion.
Doors and Shutters: Entry doors make first impressions. We prep and finish exterior doors to look sharp and withstand daily use. Shutters get individual attention for consistent appearance.
Decks, Railings, and Porches: Horizontal surfaces shed water differently than vertical ones. We use appropriate products and ensure proper prep for surfaces that get walked on or hold standing water.
Garages and Outbuildings: Detached structures need the same attention to prep and quality as your main house. We handle garages, sheds, and other exterior structures.
Exterior Painting for Different Home Styles
Victorian and Historic Homes These properties often feature multiple colors, intricate trim, and original details worth preserving. We have experience with the detailed work these homes require.
Colonial and Traditional Homes Classic styles benefit from traditional color schemes and attention to architectural elements like columns, shutters, and detailed trim work.
Contemporary and Modern Homes Clean lines and bold color choices require precision application and sharp edges. We ensure modern homes maintain their intended aesthetic.
Ranch and Split-Level Homes These homes often have large surface areas and straightforward trim. We ensure consistent appearance across all visible surfaces.
What Exterior House Painting Costs in Pittsburgh
Exterior paint contractors in Pittsburgh base pricing on several project-specific factors:
Home Size and Height: More square footage requires more time and materials. Two-story homes need scaffolding or lifts, adding equipment costs.
Surface Condition: Homes in good condition need standard prep. Properties with peeling paint, wood rot, or previous bad paint jobs require extensive additional work.
Siding Type: Wood requires more prep than fiber cement. Textured surfaces take more paint than smooth ones. Some materials need specialized primers.
Trim Complexity: Victorian homes with ornate trim take significantly longer than ranch homes with minimal trim. Detail work is labor-intensive.
Color Changes: Dark to light or dramatic color changes may require extra coats for proper coverage.
Access Challenges: Steep rooflines, landscaping obstacles, or difficult site access affect labor time and equipment needs.
We provide itemized estimates breaking down labor, materials, and specific prep work so you understand your investment.
